First HD anime DVD announced for U.S.
Bandai Visual has announced that the OVA Freedom will be the first anime to come to the US in a hi-definition format. It’s also being released in the United States first, then in Japan. Does this mark a big change in how the Japanese Anime producers treat North American audiences?
I found this news over at Japanator (not a bad site to visit every now and then). From the article:
“Katsumori Kanno, representative for Bandai Visual, stressed that the company was changing its focus toward elevating the importance of the US viewer. Admitting that in years past the American audiences have been relegated to a far secondary facility, Bandai is releasing the Freedom HD-DVD in North America even before selling it in Japan.”
On the surface that seems like a really big step. WE get something from a Japanese company before the Japanese do? Amazing! But I wonder if this is the beginning of a trend or just an experiment. Time will tell.
