Anime adaptations: The good, bad, and ugly

Now on IGN, my article on some of the best and worst English Anime adaptations. It should come as no surprise that several 4Kids adaptations fall into the unfavorable categories.

Mention the word “dub” to most hardcore anime fans and they’ll cringe in fear and disgust. The localized versions of many anime movies and series have subjected viewers to painful voice acting, bewildering script changes, and haphazard animation tweaks. But it’s important to remember that there are also some English anime adaptations that were carefully crafted with attention to detail.

We’ve compiled a list of some of the worst North American adaptation offenders, as well as some of the works that should be applauded for an admirable job. For series that have multiple adaptations, we make a note of exactly which version we’re talking about. This list is by no means exhaustive, but it should represent the wide spectrum of quality we see in the industry today.
