New Ninja Diaries Manga in LA MetroMix
I was walking home from the bank yesterday and laid eyes on a manga-like cover on one of the newsstands for the local freebies. My interest was piqued, so I investigated. Turns out that OEL manga producer Seven Seas Entertainment has partnered with MetroMix to launch an exclusive weekly manga series called Ninja Diaries. Kinda cool.
The premise of the series:
The Ninja Diaries” is, essentially, a romantic action-comedy that tells the story of a seemingly lost ninja-turned-LA-actor and the free-spirited female ninja who ventures to Los Angeles to bring him back to his clan. Of course things take an unexpected turn and the mismatched couple find themselves on the run amid the textured and colorful world of LA nightlife.
MetroMix Los Angeles has a Q&A with the artist behind the Ninja Diaries series, Elmer Damaso. Seven Seas plans to publish the “manga” in graphic novel format after it’s finished running in MetroMix. I, like many manga fans, have some mixed feelings about the whole Original English Manga movement, but I can’t deny that Seven Seas scored a good win here.

That guy in the photo does not seem amused. Kind of seems like the story is taken from the movie White Ninja just a bit.
