A new article about American Manga

Nichi Bei Times has an article discussing Original English Language (OEL) manga. It’s a really good piece that makes some very interesting points about this new trend in the manga industry.

One of the more thought-provoking parts of the article is a quote from Fruits Basket author Natsuki Takaya:

“I think that nationality has no relation to that which gives rise to manga,” she said. “Even among the Japanese, manga creators are making their creations everyday reflecting their own individuality, with none being the same. What is important isn’t the differences between the creators but their love for manga.”

Wise words from a very successful Japanese mangaka.

I’ve written about American Manga before, but this article covers the topic far better than anything I’ve read so far.
